WRESTLING

Wrestling is the 2nd oldest sport in the world. Wrestling is combative sport consisting of grappling techniques such as, throws, takedowns, pins, and other grappling holds. A wrestling match is a physical competition between two competitors in the attempt to gain and maintain a superior position. There is a range of styles with varying rules, both traditional historic and modern. The most commonly practiced styles today are, Greco Roman, Freestyle, and Collegiate also referred to as Folkstyle. Wrestling techniques have been incorporated into other martial arts as well as military hand to hand combat systems.

ONE ON ONE SPORT

The definition of wrestling is a sport or contest in which two unarmed individuals struggle hand to hand with each attempting to subdue or unbalance the other.

Wrestling in the sports world is known for its athletes being in the prime physical condition. There is no other sport like it in terms of creating great work ethics, teaching people about being in prime physical condition, teaching healthy eating practices, raising people’s self-esteem, and creating that great team bond. It is a one on one sport where you compete all alone on the mat, with your teammates, and coaches cheering you on, and giving you advice throughout. There are no time outs, and you get penalized for not keeping engaged in action (known as stalling). Wrestling is for all ages both male and female, starting around 5 or 6.

Our Wrestling Program

Wrestling at PFMMA is geared toward Freestyle and Greco Roman takedown offense and defense. Head Coach and former UFC Fighter Tyson Griffin has been coached by and trained with some of the best wrestlers in America including Randy Couture, Gray Maynard, Jay Heiron, Daniel Cormier and Kyle Griffin (younger brother of Tyson and Oklahoma State Wrestling stand-out). PFMMA’s technique-focused wrestling classes consist of wrestling calisthenics, wrestling drills for offense and defense as well as live training for takedowns and takedown defense.
